Muhaimin's Doctoral Promotion Exam, The Influence of Religiosity in Fintech Adoption in Greater Jakarta
Auditorium of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA SPs UIN Jakarta, SPs NEWS: The Graduate School of the State Islamic University (SPs UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held the 1624th Doctoral Promotion Exam in the Auditorium Room of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA SPs UIN Jakarta on Thursday, June 26, 2025 with promovendus Muhaimin.
Muhaimin is a student of the Doctoral program in Islamic Studies with a concentration in Islamic Economics. He wrote a dissertation entitled "Religiosity, Perceived Benefits, Perceived Convenience, User Attitudes, and Actual Behavior in the Use of Financial Technology in Greater Jakarta."
This dissertation reveals the religiosity factor as a crucial element in the adoption of financial technology (fintech), especially in the Greater Jakarta area which is dominated by the Muslim population.
This research departs from the rapid development of fintech which has changed the landscape of people's financial management. In Indonesia, technology-based financial services are increasingly adopted, especially in Greater Jakarta. Interestingly, Muhaimin not only adopted Davis' Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) framework, but also innovatively incorporated religiosity factors. The goal is to analyze how religiosity, along with perceived benefits, perceived convenience, and user attitudes, influences the actual behavior of fintech users.
The research method used is Mixed Method with a sequential explanatory model. This means that Muhaimin combines quantitative and qualitative approaches in sequence. Quantitative data is collected and analyzed first, then reinforced and interpreted further through qualitative data collection and analysis. This approach allows quantitative results to be explained in more depth and comprehensively, supported by qualitative insights.
What distinguishes Muhaimin's research from other fintech studies is its approach that is relevant to the dynamics of fintech adoption in Indonesia, especially in the large Muslim market. By integrating religiosity into the framework of the Technology Acceptance Model, this study provides a more comprehensive understanding of the diverse factors influencing fintech adoption among the public. This certainly opens up new perspectives in understanding consumer behavior in the digital era, especially in countries with a majority Muslim population.
The results of Muhaimin's research show significant findings: there is a positive and significant influence of religiosity variables, perceived benefits, perceived convenience, and usage attitudes on the actual behavior of fintech use. This influence is evident both directly and indirectly, through the effect of mediation. These findings are in line with the research of Wijaya et al, (2024) who stated that the centrality of religion in the lives of Muslim consumers significantly influences their financial management behavior and financial well-being.
However, Muhaimin's findings expressly reject the research results of Wahid Wachyu and Parwoto (2024) which stated that religiosity does not affect attitudes and intentions to continue using fintech. Muhaimin's dissertation is not only an important contribution to science, but also provides practical implications for fintech developers and policymakers in designing services that are more in line with people's religious values.
Muhaimin successfully defended his dissertation under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Ahmad Rodoni, MM, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Bin Said and Dr. Indo Yama, SE, MAB, and was tested in front of a board of examiners consisting of Prof. Dr. Zulkifli, MA, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Rodoni, MM, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Bin Said, Prof. Dr. Ade Sofyan Mulazid, S.Ag, MH, Prof. Dr. Kadir, M.Pd and Dr. Ir. Lilis Imamah Ichdayati, M.Si.
After paying attention to the writing of the dissertation, the comments of the examiner team and the answers of the examiners, the examiner team determined that Muhaimin was declared to have graduated with the title of Very Satisfactory and became the 1624th Doctor in the field of Islamic Studies at the Graduate School of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.
