SPs Theater Room UIN Jakarta, SPs NEWS: The Graduate School of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta held the 2769th Thesis Exam at the SPs Theater Room of UIN Jakarta, on Monday, July 28, 2025 with candidate Achmad Dicky Arief Nurrachman.

Achmad Dicky Arief Nurrachman is a student of the Master of Islamic Studies study program with a concentration in Sharia. Dicky wrote a thesis entitled "The Renewal of Uṣūl al-Fiqh Reason in the Thought of 'Alī Jum'ah"

This study specifically analyzes the renewal of the fiqh proposal in the thought of the eminent scholar, 'Ali Jum'ah. Using a qualitative approach and descriptive explanatory methods, Dicky focuses on uncovering the methodological framework and in-depth analysis of the reforms carried out by 'Ali Jum'ah in the discipline of fiqh proposal. This is crucial considering the dynamics of the continuous development of Islamic law.

In contrast to the views of some scholars such as Said Ramadhan al-Buti who reject the renewal of the fiqh proposal, this thesis expressly puts forward the argument that the fiqh proposal is very likely to be renewed. The rapid development of this discipline from its emergence to the contemporary era, both in terms of its substance, method, and presentation, is strong evidence of the significance and urgency of continuous renewal.

Through a comprehensive literature study, this study identifies that the construction framework for the renewal of the fiqh proposal 'Ali Jum'ah includes two main aspects. First, the renewal in terms of the structure of the presentation of fiqh proposal material, and second, the renewal of the substance of the fiqh proposal in certain problems relevant to the challenges of the times. These findings provide a clear picture of the innovative approach of 'Ali Jum'ah.

The analysis of the methodological framework of the renewal of the fiqh proposal 'Ali Jum'ah shows that the construction of his thinking includes the elimination of irrelevant discussions, the addition of new discussions and concepts, and the rearrangement of fiqh proposals in a fresh appearance. This approach shows 'Ali Jum'ah's efforts to make fiqh proposals more adaptive and responsive to contemporary issues.

Instead of reconstructing the scientific structure of fiqh proposals as conducted by Sunarto et al (2022), Dicky's research shows a different trend. This thesis finds that the renewal of the fiqh proposal 'Ali Jum'ah focuses more on the renewal of the substance of the reasoning-based fiqh proposal, by focusing on the understanding of reality without forgetting the essence of maqāṣid al-sharī'ah.

Achmad Dicky Arief Nurrachman successfully defended his thesis under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Said Agil Husin Al Munawar, MA and Dr. Imam Sujoko, MA, and was tested in front of a board of examiners consisting of Hamdani, M.Ag, Ph.D, Prof. Dr. Said Agil Husin Al Munawar, MA, Prof. Dr. H. Abd. Rahman, M.A. and Mohammad Adnan, LL.M, Ph.D.

After paying attention to the thesis writing, the comments of the examiner team and the candidate's answers, the examiner team determined that Achmad Dicky Arief Nurrachman graduated with the title of Very Satisfactory. Ahmad Zulkarnain is the 2769th Doctor in the field of Islamic Studies, in the master's program of the Graduate School of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. (JA)
