Auditorium of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA SPs UIN Jakarta, SPs NEWS - The Graduate School (SPs) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held the 2842nd Thesis Exam at the Auditorium Room of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA SPs UIN Jakarta on Thursday, August 27, 2026 with candidate Ahmad Badrun Kosasih.

Marwan is a scholarship recipient of the BAZNAS RI scholarship for the Master of Islamic Studies program with a concentration in Islamic Philanthropy, a thesis entitled "Productive Zakat Financing Management Based on al-Qarḍ al-Ḥ asan with a Balanced Scorecard Approach (BAZNAS Microfinance Matraman Village)". Badrun presented the results of his research on the effectiveness of interest-free loan schemes in alleviating poverty in urban areas.

The main focus is on the role  of the al-qarḍ al-ḥ asan instrument, handling problematic financing, and the sustainability of economic empowerment programs for small communities.

This scientific research uses a qualitative approach to case studies that combines field research, in-depth interviews, and literature studies. Primary data was collected directly from policy makers, managers of BAZNAS Microfinance Matraman Village (BMD), and beneficiary mustahik, which was then strengthened by the analysis of the institution's annual report documents.

From the field search, this study gave birth to three main findings that highlight the dynamics of zakat financing. First, the implementation of al-qarḍ al-ḥ asan at BMD Matraman has been proven to run through a mature management cycle. This institution presents non-cash-based revolving fund innovations, as well as implementing community partner classifications that make social capital a substitute for physical collateral.

However, the second finding underscores the challenges in the non-performing financing aspect where the level of risk or non-performing financing is still at 19%. BMD Matraman has so far relied on group assistance, mediation of local figures, and restructuring to reduce congestion. The high number is a sign that the existing prevention mechanism still needs to be strengthened through the modernization of information technology and increasing the capacity of human resources managers.

In the third finding, the effectiveness of the program was measured comprehensively using  the five-perspective Balanced Scorecard framework  , including the integration of the perspective of maqāṣid al-syarī'ah. The measurement results show excellent performance in terms of finance, mustahik service quality, and the achievement of sharia values.

The social impact of the existence of this program can be seen from the achievement of numbers in the field. A total of 754 mustahik have received benefits, of which 80 percent have succeeded in increasing the scale of capital and business income. In fact, as many as 51 MSME partners were recorded to have successfully upgraded to bankable  status or eligible to receive commercial banking access.

Overall, the effectiveness of this empowerment program is in the category of being quite good with an institutional sustainability score of 66 out of 100. This figure proves that the productive zakat program is not only a momentary charitable assistance, but also a systematically measured engine of economic independence.

Badrun's research also gives a new color by criticizing previous studies that generally focused on consumptive zakat or the rural sector. At the same time, this research strengthens the welfare theory based on maqāṣid al-syarī'ah while proving that the revolving fund scheme without collateral can survive and be successfully implemented in the midst of the complexity of Jakarta's urban society.

Badrun successfully defended his thesis under the guidance of Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, MA, Ph.D and Hamdani, M.Ag, Ph.D, and was tested in front of a board of examiners consisting of Prof. Dr. Yusuf Rahman, MA, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, MA, Ph.D, Hamdani, M.Ag, Ph.D, Prof. Dr. Rusli, S.Ag, M.Soc.Sc, Dr. Fuad Jabali, MA.

After paying attention to the thesis writing, the comments of the examiner team and the candidate's answers, the examiner team determined that Marwan graduated with the predicate of Cum Laude. Marwan Hadid is the 2842nd Master in the field of Islamic Studies, in the Master's program of the Graduate School of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. (Jay A)
