Cinta Rahmi Doctoral Promotion Exam: RBV and TQM Synergy, the Key to Islamic Boarding School Economic Independence Through Waqf Management
Auditorium Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA SPs UIN Jakarta, SPs NEWS - The Graduate School (SPs) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held the 1656th Doctoral Promotion Exam in the Auditorium Room of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA on Thursday, January 15, 2026 with the promovenda Cinta Rahmi.
Cinta is a student of the Doctoral program in Islamic Studies with a Concentration in Islamic Economics. His dissertation is entitled "Waqf Management at the Darunnajah Islamic Boarding School Jakarta and Pondok Modern Tazakka Central Java Perspective of Resource-Based View (RBV) and Total Quality Management (TQM)". Cinta explained how waqf is not just a static asset, but the heart of the Islamic boarding school's independence.
Cinta emphasized that waqf has a strategic role as an economic instrument for the people who are able to support the sustainability of education. In his study, he dissected how effective and efficient management is the main key so that the benefits of waqf can be felt widely, both by students and the community around the pesantren environment.
The analysis of this study uses the Resource-Based View (RBV) theory. This theory highlights how an organization utilizes resources, capabilities, and creates a sustainable competitive advantage. Through the concept of path dependency and social complexity, Cinta shows that the uniqueness of history and social interaction in pesantren is a strength that is difficult for other institutions to imitate.
Not only stopping at resources, this research also integrates the principles of Total Quality Management (TQM). Cinta explained that the elements of planning, people, processes, performance, culture, communication, and commitment are the main pillars in maintaining the quality of waqf management in the two Islamic boarding schools in a sustainable manner.
Findings in the field show impressive results. Waqf management in Darunnajah and Tazakka has proven to be able to synergize the use of internal resources with strict quality standards. Both have succeeded in changing the waqf paradigm from just a "silent asset" to productive capital that funds education operations and infrastructure development.
Specifically, Waqf Management at the Darunnajah Islamic Boarding School was found to focus more on the human aspect and interaction. Their main focus lies in strengthening motivation, creativity, soft skills, intensive communication, and strong leadership to drive the waqf ecosystem.
Pondok Modern Tazakka in Central Java shows strength in an expansive managerial aspect. Tazakka places great emphasis on the development of professional Human Resources (HR), the acceleration of massive physical development, and the expansion of networks at the national and international levels.
The integration between RBV and TQM in this study confirms an important thesis: the success of waqf is not only determined by the nominal amount of assets. The quality of human resources and a professional management system are much more determined whether a waqf institution can survive and develop in the long term.
The RBV perspective highlights the role of leadership, public trust, and pesantren culture as intangible assets that are very valuable. Meanwhile, TQM strengthens the foundation through continuous improvement and transparent and accountable governance.
Cinta's dissertation concludes that the synergy of these two theories makes waqf a strategic capital for the economic independence of the people. The management model of Darunnajah and Tazakka is expected to be a reference for thousands of other Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia to achieve quality education and solid financial sustainability.
