Harmathilda Doctoral Promotion Exam, Marriage Happiness in Islamic Perspective
Auditorium Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA SPs UIN Jakarta, BERITA SEKOLAH: The Graduate School of the State Islamic University (SPs UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held the 1611th Doctoral Promotion Exam in the Auditorium Room of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA SPs UIN Jakarta, on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 with the promovendus Harmathilda.
Harmathilda is a student of the Doctoral Study Program in Islamic Studies with a concentration in Islamic Psychology. He wrote a dissertation entitled "Marriage Happiness in an Islamic Perspective (The Influence of Tough Personality and Positive Thinking with Self-Compassion as a Mediator in Couples with Special Needs Children)".
Harmathilda's dissertation discusses marital happiness from an Islamic point of view, focusing on couples who have children with special needs. This study aims to examine the influence of tough personality and positive thinking on marital happiness, with self-compassion as a mediator.
The research method used by Harmathilda is a mixed method approach, combining quantitative and qualitative research. At the quantitative stage, he used four instruments, namely the Islamic Marriage Happiness Scale (IMH Scale), the Tough Personality Scale, the Positive Thinking Scale, and the Self-Compassion Scale, with 340 respondents.
One of the novelties in this research is the development of the Islamic theory of marital happiness. Harmathilda integrates the western theory of John M. Gottman with the thematic interpretation of the Quran, resulting in six aspects of Islamic marital happiness, namely being calm & comfortable with the partner, nurturing love, affection, understanding the partner, overcoming obstacles to problems, and creating harmony.
The results of Harmathilda's research show that self-compassion plays a significant role as a mediator in the relationship between tough personalities and positive thinking towards Islamic marital happiness. Qualitative analysis also confirms that tough personalities, positive thinking, and self-compassion are proven to support Islamic marital bliss.
This research is expected to make a significant contribution to enriching the study of Islamic psychology, especially in the context of marital happiness. These findings can also be a guide for couples, especially those with children with special needs, in building a harmonious and happy family.
Harmathilda successfully defended her dissertation under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Abdul Mujib, M.Ag, M.Si and Prof. Dr. Fadhilah Suralaga, M.Si, and was tested in front of a board of examiners consisting of Prof. Dr. Zulkifli, MA, Prof. Dr. Abdul Mujib, M.Ag, M.Si, Prof. Dr. Fadhilah Suralaga, M.Si, Prof. Bambang Suryadi, Ph.D, Prof. Dr. Zahrotun Nihayah, M.Si and Prof. Dr. Kadir, M.Pd.
