Jayadi Doctoral Promotion Exam, Islam and TNI Education Development Strategy: A Study on Islamic Character Development in Seskoal
Auditorium Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA SPs UIN Jakarta, SP NEWS – The Graduate School (SPs) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held the 1665th Doctoral Promotion Exam in the Auditorium Room of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA on Friday, February 13, 2026 with Jayadi promovendus.
Jayadi is a student of the Doctoral program in Islamic Studies with a Concentration in Islamic Religious Education. His dissertation is entitled "Islam and the Educational Development Strategy of the TNI: A Study of Islamic Character Development in Seskoal".
This research is not just a pursuit of a degree, but a mission to design a more robust TNI education model. Jayadi seeks to integrate the noble values of Islam into strengthening the character of soldiers through the existing military education system. The main focus is on how the values of faith, sharia, and morals can be the foundation for the mentality of soldiers in the midst of the challenges of an increasingly complex era.
Using a qualitative approach and case study design at the Naval Command and Staff School (Seskoal), Jayadi dives deeper through in-depth interviews and participatory observations. He not only looked at the curriculum documents on paper, but also photographed the reality of how character development was carried out in the field by prospective sea level leaders.
Jayadi dissected the military education system from various points of view, ranging from a theological perspective regarding human relationships with God, philosophical aspects of the value of life, to practical aspects that can be applied in daily military discipline to form soldiers with integrity.
However, Jayadi's findings in this study are an important "alarm" for military educational institutions. He revealed that until now, the implementation of character education in institutions such as Seskoal has not been running optimally. The integration of moral and spiritual values into the formal curriculum still has a fairly wide gap.
Jayadi highlighted that the spirituality development of student officers so far tends to be only supportive and unstructured. The absence of systematic evaluation indicators makes the integration between academic-strategic competencies and moral coaching not fully realized. This makes the character of the warriors sometimes seem separate from their technical proficiency.
This is where the novelty offered by Jayadi lies. In contrast to previous research that may have only touched on the technical aspect, this study offers a holistic paradigm. He proposed a vision in which rigid military professionalism can synergize harmoniously with the spiritual dimension to create a soldier who is not only good at fighting, but also morally strong.
As a concrete step, this study recommends the preparation of a roadmap and strategic program for the transformation of TNI education. Jayadi emphasized the importance of strengthening character in the digital era through the systematic integration of Islamic values. For him, technology can be advanced, but the spiritual roots and identity of soldiers must remain grounded and sustainable.
Jayadi's success in this session is expected to be a momentum for the TNI, especially in the Seskoal environment, to review the direction of their character education. With the presence of this dissertation, the path to the formation of professional, integrity, and Islamic soldiers now has a strong scientific foundation and is relevant to future challenges.
Jayaadi successfully defended his dissertation under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Husni Rahim; Prof. Dr. Armai Arief, M.Ag, Suparto, M.Ed, Ph.D, and tested in front of a board of examiners consisting of Prof. Dr. Zulkifli, MA, Prof. Dr. Husni Rahim; Prof. Dr. Armai Arief, M.Ag, Prof. Dr. Didin Saepudin, MA, Prof. Dr. Achmad Syahid, M.Ag, Prof. Dr. Kadir, M.Pd.
After paying attention to the writing of the dissertation, the comments of the examiner team and the answers of the promovendus, the examiner team determined that Jayadi graduated with the title of Very Satisfactory. Jayadi is the 1665th Doctor in the field of Islamic Studies, a doctoral program of the Graduate School of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. (YES)
