Jejen Jaenudin Doctoral Promotion Exam, Testing of the Success Model of the Zakat Management Information System on the Achievement of BAZNAS Organizational Goals
Auditorium of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA SPs UIN Jakarta, SPs NEWS – The Graduate School (SPs) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held the 1691st Doctoral Promotion Exam in the Auditorium Room of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA on Thursday, July 16, 2026 with promovendus Jejen Jaenudin.
Jejen is a student of the Doctoral program in Islamic Studies with a concentration in Religion and Science. His dissertation is entitled "Testing the Success Model of the Zakat Management Information System on the Achievement of BAZNAS Organizational Goals".
This research raises the urgency of digital transformation as a vital instrument in boosting the effectiveness, transparency, and accountability of the management of people's funds in Indonesia.
In his presentation, Jejen explained that the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) has actually taken a step forward by developing the BAZNAS Management Information System (SiMBA). This integrated digital platform is specifically designed to support the entire zakat ecosystem nationally, starting from the process of collection, management, distribution, to reporting.
However, the implementation of the SiMBA platform in the field apparently still encounters sharp pebbles. Jejen identified a number of classic challenges that often hinder the optimization of digital systems, such as limited information technology infrastructure, capacity gaps for users, uneven service quality, imperfect data integration, and cybersecurity issues.
Furthermore, Jejen sees a gap in the existing scientific literature. So far, research on the success of SiMBA is still dominated by technical and administrative evaluations, while studies that link it to the achievement of organizational goals based on sharia values are still very limited.
Seeing these gaps, this study aims to measure the success of SiMBA implementation using a comprehensive lens, which combines the DeLone and McLean Information System Success Model which is popular in the technology world with the maqāṣid al-sharīʿah approach. Thus, a new evaluation model that integrates technical and spiritual aspects was successfully formulated.
In order to accurately dissect this phenomenon, Jejen applied the mixed methods method with a sequential explanatory design. Quantitative data was collected through a survey of 311 SiMBA users in the BAZNAS environment with a purposive sampling technique, then analyzed using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method. Not stopping there, he also conducted in-depth interviews with key informants to strengthen his qualitative analysis.
The results of the quantitative analysis yielded interesting findings: system quality, information quality, and service quality have been proven to have a positive and significant effect on user satisfaction. Furthermore, user satisfaction has a direct impact on the net benefits felt, which in the end significantly encourages the achievement of BAZNAS organizational goals.
This study also found that the strongest influence path in the success of the system was formed through mediation variables in the form of user satisfaction and net benefits. From the qualitative side, the key informants confirmed that the presence of SiMBA has significantly increased transparency, accountability, data integration, and efficiency in national zakat governance decision-making.
This important finding confirms a new fact that successful implementation of technologies such as SiMBA does not only produce administrative and operational advantages on paper. More than that, a mature information system actually contributes greatly to the achievement of the noble goals of the organization that is oriented towards the benefit of the ummah (maslahah).
Theoretically, the originality of this research makes a great contribution to the academic world through a new modeling that marries modern management theory with Islamic law. Meanwhile, practically, the recommendation from Doctor Jejen Jaenudin can be a valuable blueprint for BAZNAS to continue to strengthen SiMBA infrastructure in order to realize a trusted digital zakat ecosystem that is in line with sharia.
Jejen successfully defended his dissertation under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Syopiansyah Jaya Putra, M.Sis and Prof. Ir. Muh. Nadratuzzaman Hosen, MS, M.Sc, Ph.D, and tested in front of a board of examiners consisting of Prof. Dr. Zulkifli, MA, Prof. Dr. Syopiansyah Jaya Putra, M.Sis, Prof. Ir. Muh. Nadratuzzaman Hosen, MS, M.Sc, Ph.D, Prof. Dr. Rusli, S.Ag, M.Soc.Sc, Prof. Dr. Euis Amalia, M.Ag, A'ang Subiyakto, M.Kom, Ph.D.
After paying attention to the writing of the dissertation, the comments of the examiner team and the answers of the promovendus, the examiner team determined that Jejen Jaenudin
graduated with the title of Very Satisfactory. Jejen Jaenudin is the 1691st Doctor in the field of Islamic Studies, a doctoral program at the Graduate School of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. (Jay A)
