Meshal Shaleh A. Alanazi's Thesis Exam, OIC Diplomacy Is Able to Create Regional Stability
SPs Theater Room UIN Jakarta, SPs NEWS: The Graduate School of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta held the 2781st Thesis Exam at the SPs Theater Room of UIN Jakarta, on Friday, August 15, 2025 with candidate Meshal Shaleh A. Alanazi.
Meshal is a student of the Master of Islamic Studies study program with a concentration in Islamic Studies and Islamic Relations. Meshal wrote a thesis entitled "الاتصالات الدولية ومساهمة منظمة التعاون الإسلامي في تحقيق الاستقرار الإقليمي: دراسة القوانين وتطبيقاتها ".
This research specifically focuses on the analysis of the contribution of international communication in creating regional stability, with an emphasis on the legal and policy role carried out by the OIC.
Meshal, using a qualitative approach and a literature study method based on document analysis. He researched various documents, including the Charter of the OIC as the primary source, as well as other OIC legal practices. The goal is to understand how the OIC promotes peace and cooperation between Islamic countries.
Meshal's research findings differ from the common view that the OIC often sees the role of the OIC as just a formality. In a multipolar global situation, the study argues that the effectiveness of the OIC's diplomatic and public communications is highly dependent on the cohesiveness of its member states.
Furthermore, the study also highlights the importance of clear communication strategies in the face of global challenges, such as Islamophobia and terrorism. This shows that communication is not just a complementary tool, but is at the heart of the OIC's success in resolving conflicts and building cooperation.
Emphatically, Meshal rejects Raymond Aron's (1983) approach which places too much emphasis on the balance of power in international relations. According to him, this approach ignores the religious dimension and spiritual identity that are at the core of the dynamics of the Islamic world.
Instead, this research is in line with thinking that highlights the importance of spiritual capital and the revitalization of the collective consciousness of Muslims. This thesis argues that by strengthening spiritual values and common consciousness, Muslims can build an independent and influential civilization on the global stage.
From the results of his research, Meshal concluded that the success of the OIC in creating regional stability depends heavily on the integration of strong communication strategies, diplomatic transparency, and synergy between member countries. Without these three elements, the role of the OIC would be limited and less effective.
This thesis provides a refreshing new perspective on the role of the OIC. He sees the OIC not only as a political organization, but also as an entity driven by spiritual power and a collective identity. It is a recognition that effective diplomacy and public communication must be rooted in shared values.
Thus, the results of Meshal Saleh A. Alanazi's research are important contributions to the study of international relations, especially in the context of the Islamic world. This thesis opens the door to further discussion of how organizations like the OIC can harness the power of communication and shared identities to create regional peace and stability in the midst of increasingly complex global challenges.
Meshal Shaleh A. Alanazi successfully defended his thesis under the guidance of Prof. Dr. JM Muslimin, MA, and was tested before a board of examiners consisting of Prof. Dr. Yusuf Rahman, MA, Prof. Dr. JM Muslimin, MA, Prof. Dr. Iik Arifin Mansurnoor, MA and Mohammad Adnan, LL.M, Ph.D.
