Auditorium of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA SPs UIN Jakarta, SPs NEWS – The Graduate School (SPs) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held the 1663rd Doctoral Promotion Exam in the Auditorium Room of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 with the promovendus Miftahuddin.
Miftahuddin is a student of the Doctoral program in Islamic Studies with a concentration in Islamic Psychology. His dissertation is entitled "Islamic Financial Welfare in Non-Permanent Employees: A Test of a Theoretical Model with Gratitude as a Mediating Variable". This research highlights the phenomenon of worker welfare in the midst of the uncertainty of employment status that is increasingly rampant.
This research departs from academic anxiety to examine the influence of job insecurity and attitudes towards money on Islamic financial welfare. Miftahuddin places gratitude as the "heart" of research which acts as the main mediator variable.
Theoretically, this research refers to two major pillars, namely the Conservation of Resources Theory (Hobfoll) and the Theory of Planned Behavior (Ajzen). Both are combined to emphasize how crucial the role of psychological resources and subjective meaning are in shaping individual well-being.
The methodology used is fairly comprehensive with a mixed methods approach to sequential explanatory design. Miftahuddin collected quantitative data from 641 non-permanent employees throughout Indonesia, which was then deepened through in-depth interviews with six selected informants.
One of the main attractions of this dissertation is its novelty in developing a measure of Islamic financial welfare. This instrument was originally prepared based on the thematic study of the holy verses of the Qur'an which is aligned with the needs of modern industry.
Through a holistic model, this research has succeeded in integrating various scientific perspectives, ranging from industrial and organizational psychology, economic psychology, to positive psychology rooted in Islamic values in the context of local workers.
The results of the data analysis show very interesting findings. The variables of gratitude, job insecurity, and attitude towards money were collectively able to explain the 59.2% variance of Islamic financial well-being in the study subjects.
This study revealed that job insecurity and gratitude have a positive and significant influence on Islamic financial well-being. These findings give a new color to the current economic psychology literature.
However, there is a unique record of attitudes towards money that do not have a significant effect directly on welfare. In fact, attitudes towards money have a negative impact on a person's gratitude in managing their finances.
This research also confirms the central role of gratitude as a psychological-spiritual mechanism. Gratitude has been shown to mediate the relationship between job insecurity and well-being positively, as well as mediate the negative impact of attitudes on money.
The qualitative findings in this research further strengthen the statistical data. It was revealed that Islamic financial welfare is built through the interpretation of money as a mandate, financial management in accordance with sharia, and avoidance of excessive consumptive behavior.
Academically, Miftahuddin has made a major contribution by offering an empirical model that bridges modern psychology and spiritual values. This research enriches the treasure trove of welfare studies from an Islamic perspective that is relevant to current economic conditions.
Miftahuddin successfully defended his dissertation under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Abdul Mujib, M.Ag, M.Si, Prof. Dr. Achmad Syahid, M.Ag, Dr. Abdul Rahman Shaleh, M.Psi, and was tested in front of a board of examiners consisting of Prof. Dr. Zulkifli, MA, Prof. Dr. Abdul Mujib, M.Ag, M.Si, Prof. Dr. Achmad Syahid, M.Ag, Dr. Abdul Rahman Shaleh, M.Psi, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Rodoni, MM, Prof. Dr. Fadhilah Suralaga, M.Si, Dr. Yunita Faela Nisa, M.Psi, Psychologist.

Miftahuddin is the 1663rd Doctor in the field of Islamic Studies, a doctoral program at the Graduate School of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. (JA)
