Muneera Fawwas H Alhassan Thesis Exam, Islam and Climate Change: Green Human Resource Management and Islamic Spirituality at Al-Haramain Condet-Jakarta

SPs Theater Room UIN Jakarta, SPs NEWS - The Graduate School (SPs) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held the 2802nd Thesis Exam at the SPs Theater Room of UIN Jakarta on Friday, February 13, 2026 with candidate Muneera Fawwas H Alhassan.

Muneera is a student of the Master of Islamic Studies program with a concentration in Islamic Economics. His thesis is titled "Islam and Climate Change: Green Human Resource Management and Islamic Spirituality in Al-Haramain Condet-Jakarta". Ericson managed to maintain his research dissecting an influential Betawi intellectual, Mualim Md. Ali Alhamidy Matraman.

This research dissects a crucial phenomenon of how the values of the sky can be accommodated in the earth's managerial practices. Muneera focused her studies on the implementation  of Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) at fashion company Al-Haramain Condet. Its main focus includes four green pillars: recruitment, training, performance appraisals, and incentive systems, all of which are combined with the breath of Islamic values to respond to the threat of global climate change.

Using  a mixed methods approach, Muneera combined the sharpness of quantitative data from the questionnaire with the depth of qualitative analysis through in-depth observation and interviews. This dual methodology allows researchers to comprehensively see the extent to which eco-friendly practices are not just administrative procedures, but rather the result of internalizing spiritual values in the daily work behavior of employees.

The fundamental argument built in this thesis is that in an Islamic perspective, the GHRM goes beyond its function as a mere managerial instrument. Muneera emphasized that environmental management is a tangible manifestation of human moral responsibility as a caliph on earth. Thus, maintaining the balance of the ecosystem through office policies is a form of worship and mandate that must be fulfilled professionally.

The findings show a significant positive correlation: the implementation of green practices in the office has been shown to improve employee performance while thickening their environmental awareness. This proves that sustainability does not hinder productivity, but rather becomes a catalyst for a more meaningful and ethical work spirit in the face of the climate crisis.

Theoretically, this research provides strong support for Robert Edward Freeman's Stakeholder Theory which prioritizes social responsibility. On the other hand, Muneera's findings firmly clash with and reject Milton Friedman's doctrine which is only oriented to profit maximization without caring about ethical aspects and nature conservation.

The novelty of this research lies in the originality of integration between green human resource management, Islamic values, and the religious fashion industry. Muneera has successfully shown that the Muslim clothing industry has great potential to become a pioneer in the environmental rescue movement if managed with management based on socio-ecological responsibility.

This thesis exam closes with the conclusion that Islamic-based management approaches have strategic relevance for building sustainable organizations in the contemporary era. This achievement is expected to be an inspiration for other industry players in Jakarta and Indonesia to start adopting the principle of "green" for a better future of the earth, without giving up the identity of spirituality.

Muneera successfully defended her thesis under the guidance of Prof. Nur Hidayah, S.Ag, SE, MA, MA, Ph.D, Dr. Rizqi Handayani, MA, and was tested in front of a board of examiners consisting of Prof. Dr. Yusuf Rahman, MA, Dr. Rizqi Handayani, MA, Prof. Dr. Desmadi Saharuddin, MA, Prof. Dr. Iik Arifin Mansurnoor, MA.

After paying attention to the thesis writing, the comments of the examiner team and the candidate's answers, the examiner team determined that Muneera graduated with the predicate of Very Satisfactory. Muneera Fawwas H Alhassan is the 2802nd Master in the field of Islamic Studies, in the Master's program of the Graduate School of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. (JA)
