Nana Meily Nurdiansyah Doctoral Promotion Exam, Problem Based Learning Model in Islamic Religious Education Learning

Auditorium Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA SPs UIN Jakarta, BERITA SEKOLAH: The Graduate School of the State Islamic University (SPs UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held the 1610th Doctoral Promotion Exam in the Auditorium Room of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA SPs UIN Jakarta, on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 with the promovendus Nana Meily Nurdiansyah.

Nana Meily Nurdiansyah is a student of the Doctoral Study Program in Islamic Studies with a concentration in Islamic Religious Education. He wrote a dissertation entitled "Problem Based Learning Model in Islamic Religious Education Learning (Phenomenological Studies at SMA Insan Cendekia Madani)".

Nana Meily Nurdiansyah's dissertation discusses the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) Model in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning at SMA Insan Cendekia Madani. This research uses a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods to explore the meaning of reality in the field. Nana collects data through observation, interviews, and analysis of documents, then carefully processes them to produce in-depth findings.

One of the main findings of this study is the concept of the PBL Model in PAI learning which is integrated with the civil curriculum. This concept combines the 2013 national curriculum, Cambridge, and the boarding school-based distinctiveness curriculum, as well as integrating the strengthening of ICM (Islamic, Smart, and Independent) values. This PBL model is implemented through intracurricular and extracurricular activities, enriched with ARMAI (Active Learning, Reinforcement, Independent, Application, Innovation, and Improvisation) syntax and critical PBL (Communicative, Relevance, Innovation, Structured, Islamic, and Solitative).

The learning outcomes of this PBL Model include cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. In the cognitive aspect, students are challenged to integrate science with Islamic teachings. The affective aspect is improved through spiritual activities and social concerns, such as the distribution of zakat and alms. Meanwhile, the psychomotor aspect is developed through the ability to memorize the Qur'an, fiqh practices, and simulation of the United Nations General Assembly (ICMUN).

This research has made a significant contribution to the development of an innovative and effective PAI learning model. Nana Meily Nurdiansyah successfully showed that the PBL Model can improve students' critical, logical, and comprehensive thinking skills in solving problems. These findings are in line with the opinions of education experts such as Howard Barrows, Armai Arief, and Dede Rosyada, who emphasized the importance of student-centered learning and problem-solving.

However, this study also provides criticism of the behavioristic learning theory popularized by Ivan Pavlov, John B. Watson, and B.F. Skinner. Behavioristic theory is considered to focus too much on measurable behavior change and position students as passive individuals. Nana Meily Nurdiansyah's research shows that effective PAI learning must involve cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects holistically.

Nana Meily Nurdiansyah successfully defended her dissertation under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Dede Rosyada, MA, Prof. Dr. Armai Arief, M.Ag and Prof. Muhammad Zuhdi, M.Ed, Ph.D, and was tested in front of a board of examiners consisting of Prof. Dr. Zulkifli, MA, Prof. Dr. Dede Rosyada, MA, Prof. Dr. Armai Arief, M.Ag, Prof. Muhammad Zuhdi, M.Ed, Ph.D, Prof. Dr. Husni Rahim,  Prof. Dr. Kadir, M.Pd and Prof. Kusmana, MA, Ph.D.

After paying attention to the dissertation writing, the comments of the examining team and the promovendus answers, the examining team determined that Nana Meily Nurdiansyah was declared to have graduated with the title of Very Satisfactory and became the 1610th Doctor in the field of Islamic Studies at the Graduate School of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.(JA)
