New Student Orientation for the Odd Semester 2026/2027, Starting Academic Steps Towards Global Standards
Auditorium of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA SPs UIN Jakarta, SPs NEWS - The Graduate School (SPs) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta officially opened the Study Orientation and Strengthening of Academic Skills activities for new students of the Odd Semester Class of the 2026/2027 Academic Year. Lasting for three days from August 28 to September 1, 2026, the activity centered in the Auditorium of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA was attended by all new students of the Master's and Doctoral programs.
The activity was officially opened by the Director of SPs UIN Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Zulkifli, MA. In his remarks, he warmly welcomed the new students while appreciating their courage to choose SPs UIN Jakarta as a port of further study. "You dare to register in SPs means you have the guts and courage," he said, referring to the high academic standards and strong intellectual traditions that are consistently maintained by the campus.
The opening session was attended by the Deputy Director Prof. Dr. Yusuf Rahman, MA, as well as the leaders of the master's and doctoral study programs, namely Prof. Dr. JM Muslimin, MA, Hamdani, M.Ag, Ph.D, Dr. Maswani, MA, and Dr. Rizqi Handayani, MA. The readiness and smoothness of the entire series of events was ensured directly by the Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Alvian Iqbal Zahasfan, MA.

Entering the first day of the material session, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Rahman, MA explained the Vision, Mission, and Qualifications of S2 and S3 Graduates. This presentation was directly aligned with the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI) to provide an initial understanding of the national and global competency standards that must be met by students during the study period.
The session continued with an exploration of the history, curriculum structure, and course weight delivered by the Head of the Doctoral Study Program, Prof. Dr. JM Muslimin, MA, together with the Head of the Master of Islamic Studies Study Program, Hamdani, M.Ag, Ph.D. The first day series was closed with the socialization of E-Semesta digital services by Abdullah, S.Kom from Putipanda, as well as the introduction of campus facilities delivered by Afif Ahmad Faisal, ST, MM, M. Adam Hesa, M.Kom, and Jayadi, S.Kom.

The second day of orientation was focused on strengthening the research foundation. In the morning session, Dr. Alfida, MLIS, accompanied by moderator Dr. Rizqi Handayani, MA, guided students in mapping discipline-based journals, the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, as well as the practice of operating reference management applications such as Mendeley and Zotero.
The second day's afternoon session was no less crucial with the discussion of Academic Skills, especially academic reading and writing skills (Reading and Writing Skills). The session, which was moderated by Dr. Maswani, MA, presented Ummi Kultsum, M.Pd, Ph.D as a resource person to equip students with advanced literacy strategies.

The last day of orientation was opened with an Iftitah Lecture entitled "Inaugural (Parallel) Lecture on Interdisciplinary Islamic Studies: Tradition and Innovation". Guided by Dr. Rizqi Handayani, MA as the moderator, with speakers Prof. Dr. Rd. Mulyadi Kartanegara and Dr. Fuad Jabali, MA dissected the urgency of the interdisciplinary approach in modern Islamic studies.
The highlight of the series of events was filled by Ulpah Andayani, S.Ag, SS, M.Hum who presented comprehensive material about the Graduate Research Library. This session included the use of facilities and e-resources, online search strategies, academic integrity, the use of Turnitin, and the wise use of artificial intelligence (AI) for academic purposes.
Through this orientation that is dense with technical and philosophical materials, SPs UIN Jakarta is optimistic that new students can undergo lectures well. This provision is expected to be a stepping stone so that students are able to complete their studies on time and produce scientific works that have a wide impact on the academic world and society.
