Auditorium Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA SPs UIN Jakarta, SPs NEWS - The Graduate School (SPs) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held the 2834th Thesis Exam at the SPs Theater Room of UIN Jakarta on Thursday, August 13, 2026 with candidate Randy Putra Alamsyah.

Randy is a student of the Master of Islamic Studies program with a Concentration in Interdisciplinary Interpretation. His thesis is entitled "Entrepreneurship Practices Based on Qur'an Values at Ruhama Al Fajar Islamic Boarding School, Bogor".

This study is to analyze the process of transformation of Qur'an values in forming value-based entrepreneurial practices at the Ruhama Al Fajar Islamic Boarding School, which is located in Tajur Halang District, Bogor Regency. Through this research, Randy seeks to dissect how Islamic spirituality can be holistically integrated with the economic independence of religious educational institutions.

This study departs from the fundamental perspective that the Qur'an is not only understood as a rigid normative text, but is actively lived as the main source of value. In the context of the pesantren community, these values are alive and continue to guide the formation of beliefs, traditions, and operational practices of the daily lives of students and institutional managers.

In order to capture these dynamics in its entirety, Randy applies a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Field data collection was carried out through a series of participatory observations, in-depth interviews with pesantren stakeholders, and documentation studies to comprehensively understand the process of meaning, internalization, and actualization of Qur'anic values.

The results of the study revealed that  the practice of value-based entrepreneurship at the Ruhama Al Fajar Islamic Boarding School is manifested in various important aspects, ranging from the management of business units, leadership styles, a sense of responsibility, a high work ethic, to the formation of the independence of students. These economic practices are shown not just as ordinary business activities, but as manifestations of the religious values practiced.

Furthermore, the findings reflect the existence of a mechanism for transforming the values of the Qur'an that runs in a structured manner through the process of meaning, internalization, and actualization. This transformation path succeeded in bridging and connecting the religious authority of kyai, the institutional traditions of Islamic boarding schools that have taken root, and the daily life practices of the students.

From a theoretical perspective, by synthesizing  the Living Qur'an paradigm, Wilfred Cantwell Smith's scriptural relational theory, as well as empirical findings in the field, this study confirms an important argument. Randy argues that  value-based entrepreneurship in Islamic boarding schools is formed through a dynamic relationship between faith, cumulative tradition, and practice, rather than a direct mechanistic consequence of simply understanding the textual Qur'an.

On that basis, this research succeeded in formulating a new conceptual model called the Qur'anic Value-Based Entrepreneurship System. This model comprehensively explains the flow of the transformation of Qur'anic values, starting from the value framework, the process of internalization and actualization, the formation of individual character, to finally the institutionalization of a solid entrepreneurial system. This model positions the Qur'an as scripture-in-life, which is a living scripture that continues to transform values into real characters and systems.

Through this scientific contribution, Randy has succeeded in expanding the horizons  of Living Qur'an studies  which were previously pioneered by researchers such as Ahmad Rafiq (2014), Fathurrosyid (2016), and Supriyanto (2023), who generally focus on the manifestation of the Qur'an in ritual practices, traditions, and local culture. In addition, this study also corroborates the findings of Kolkailah (2023) regarding the transformative capacity of Qur'anic values in social change, while going further by clarifying the mechanism for institutionalizing these values into a sustainable pesantren entrepreneurship  system.

Randy successfully defended his thesis under the guidance of Suparto, M.Ed, Ph.D, and was tested in front of a board of examiners consisting of Prof. Dr. Yusuf Rahman, MA, Suparto, M.Ed, Ph.D, Prof. Dr. Sururin, M.Ag, Prof. Dr. Suwendi M.Ag.

After paying attention to the thesis writing, the comments of the examiner team and the candidate's answers, the examiner team determined that Randy graduated with the predicate of Very Satisfactory. Randy Putra Alamsyah is the 2834th Master in the field of Islamic Studies, in the Master's program of the Graduate School of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. (Jay A)
