Jakarta, School News - The Graduate School (SPs) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held a Monitoring and Evaluation (Monev) activity for scholarship recipients of the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) of the Republic of Indonesia. The agenda, which took place at the Kristal Hotel from Wednesday to Thursday (23-24/9/2026), was aimed at monitoring and evaluating the progress of the studies of amil and philanthropic practitioners who are pursuing a Master's program and a Doctorate in Islamic Studies with a concentration in Islamic Philanthropy.

This strategic activity was attended directly by the leadership of SPs UIN Jakarta, Vice Chairman of BAZNAS RI Dr. Zainut Tauhid Sa'adi, M.Si, Director of Empowerment of BAZNAS RI Agus Siswanto, M.A.P., and scholarship program recipients.

When opening the event, the Director of SPs UIN Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Zulkifli, MA, expressed his appreciation for the collaboration between SPs UIN Jakarta and BAZNAS RI. He emphasized that the mentoring and educational assistance for philanthropic practitioners showed real and encouraging results.

Prof. Zulkifli explained that the development of the students' studies in Batches 1 and 2 advanced very significantly, where the majority of participants managed to achieve the academic targets that had been set. Seeing this success, he had high hopes that this scholarship program could continue to be sustainable in the future.

Completing the overview of these achievements, the Deputy Director of SPs UIN Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Rahman, MA, delivered a detailed report on the progress of the study of 30 BAZNAS scholarship recipients. The details include 12 Master's students Batch 1, 8 Master's students Batch 2, and 10 students of the Doctoral program.

In his report, Prof. Yusuf revealed that for the Master'  s Batch 1 level, as many as 11 students have successfully published scientific articles in Sinta 2-accredited national journals, and five of them have even officially completed their studies. Meanwhile, in Batch 2, six out of eight students have also penetrated the Sinta 2 journal.

As for the Doctoral program, as many as nine students have completed  the work in progress exam  in the fourth semester, while one other student is scheduled to follow in the fifth semester. All of these doctoral students are targeted to publish their work in the reputable international journal Scopus and take the doctoral promotion exam in the sixth semester.

Responding to this achievement, the Vice Chairman of BAZNAS RI, Dr. Zainut Tauhid Sa'adi, M.Si, assessed that this scholarship program has a very strategic role in producing the next generation of zakat managers and philanthropic practitioners. He also appreciated the hard work of SPs UIN Jakarta in overseeing the quality of its students.

Zainut emphasized that this education support is a long-term investment to boost the quality of human resources in the philanthropic sector. According to him, the future of zakat and philanthropy management in Indonesia is in the hands of graduates who receive BAZNAS Scholarships, especially those who study at SPs UIN Jakarta.

Furthermore, Zainut advised that the research and scientific work produced by students should not stop as academic documents in the library alone. He encouraged the results of the research to contribute and have a real impact on strengthening zakat governance in the country.

As an alumnus who completed his doctoral studies at SPs UIN Jakarta, Zainut also shared his experience during his studies. He admitted that the academic tradition and discipline applied on the campus are very strong, so that it is able to shape the character of his graduates to be more resilient.

Monev's atmosphere was getting warmer when entering the question and answer session and testimonials from student representatives. Farid Septian, a doctoral student, revealed that the BAZNAS Scholarship provides a very strategic space for practitioners to deepen academic literacy about zakat and waqf, as well as bridging field experience with scientific theory.

The same appreciation was conveyed by Arief Budiman, the first graduate of the master's program to receive this scholarship. He feels that the academic environment and facilities at SPs UIN Jakarta are very supportive of the smooth study, and hopes that similar facilities can be felt by more amil in Indonesia. Meanwhile, Wulandari as a representative of female scholarship recipients hopes that the knowledge gained can encourage amil to work more professionally and bring wider benefits to society. (Jay A)
