SPs UIN Jakarta held Studium Generale for the Reconstruction of Islamic Humanities
Auditorium of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA SPs UIN Jakarta, SPs NEWS - The Graduate School (SPs) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held a Studium Generale with the theme "Reconstruction of Islamic Humanities" on Thursday, November 6, 2025. The event, which took place at the Auditorium of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA, became an important stage for international academic dialogue, bringing together ideas from Indonesia and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The presence of two speakers succeeded in attracting high enthusiasm from the academic community of UIN Jakarta.
The event was opened by the Deputy Director of SPs, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Rahman, MA, who conveyed his welcome to Ayatullah Prof. Dr. Ali Abbasi. Prof. Yusuf Rahman also expressed his hope that this Studium Generale activity can improve a good academic climate within the UIN Jakarta Graduate School. This collaboration is expected to improve the academic climate within the UIN Jakarta Graduate School.
Prof. Dr. Ali Abbasi expressed his pleasure and pride to be able to visit SPs UIN Jakarta. He also expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to collaborate with various universities in the world, including UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, in a collaborative effort to develop diverse and sustainable science. He explained that Iran has been carrying out the "Reconstruction of Islamic Humanities" for 40 years.

This reconstruction process, he explained, is not to erase the existing Humanities, but to complement and perfect it to suit Islamic paradigms and values. The main goal is that this science can answer global challenges and bring human happiness in this world and the hereafter.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Rd. Mulyadhi Kartanegara, Professor and Lecturer of SPs UIN Jakarta, provided a basis for thinking from the perspective of science in the West. He emphasized that in order to understand the reconstruction of the humanities, it is important to first study the secularization of science in the West that has occurred.

According to Prof. Mulyadhi, science in the modern world that wants to be considered scientific must be subject to empirical procedures. This empirical limitation applies to all branches of biological sciences, psychology, sociology where if it does not meet these requirements, it will not be called scientific. This view contrasts with the spirit of reconstruction that wants to insert transcendent values.
Prof. Mulyadhi also reminded about the history of knowledge sharing. In the past, science was divided into two, namely theoretical science and applied science. Theoretical science at that time was further divided into three: mathematics, natural/science, and metaphysics.
The new division, he continued, includes three main categories: Humanities, mathematics, and nature. He even gave an example of the division of physics by Ibn Sina which is very detailed covering eight branches, ranging from General Physics, Astronomy/Cosmology, to Medicine.

This in-depth scientific dialogue was greeted with very high enthusiasm from the participants. This is evident from the full room of the Auditorium of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA, as well as the many questions asked by the students to the two speakers.
This Studium Generale activity is not only a forum for the exchange of ideas, but also affirms the commitment of the Graduate School of UIN Jakarta in advancing relevant and contextual Islamic science in the midst of the dynamics of modern civilization, raising hopes for the birth of science with a divine spirit.
