Studium Generale "Ethics and Utilization of Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Paper Writing"
Auditorium Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA SPs UIN Jakarta, SPs NEWS - The Graduate School (SPs) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta took a step forward in responding to the digital revolution through the implementation of a Studium Generale themed "Ethics and the Utilization of Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Paper Writing in the Digital Publication Era." This event, which took place at the Auditorium of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA, on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, marked the serious commitment of SPs to technology integration by upholding academic integrity.
The Studium Generale presented the main speaker Khodijah Hulliyah, M.Si, Ph.D, who is the Director of the Artificial Intelligence Literacy and Innovation Institute (ALII) UIN Jakarta. This discussion was moderated by Fitri Sari, a doctoral student from SPs UIN Jakarta.
Also present at this event were the Director of SPs, Prof. Dr. Zulkifli, MA, Secretary of the Doctoral Study Program in Islamic Studies, Dr. Maswani, MA, and the Secretary of the Master of Islamic Studies Study Program, Dr. Rizki Handayani, MA. Their presence confirms the importance of this topic for the entire postgraduate academic community.
In her presentation, Dr. Khodijah Hulliyah said that UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta has formulated and published policies related to the use of generative artificial intelligence (Generative AI/GenAI). This policy is known as the AI Usage Policy 2025.
This policy is designed as an ethical guide to utilize the technology of LLMs (Large Language Models), such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, which are considered to have fundamentally changed the way of thinking and scientific processes in the academic world.

This step places UIN Jakarta as a pioneer in the Islamic university environment in Indonesia in responding to the wave of transformation brought by AI technology.
The essence of this policy is to position AI as a 'co-pilot' a powerful supporting tool rather than as an 'autopilot' that is allowed to replace the systematic thinking process, depth of analysis, and search for scientific novelty (originality) by researchers.
This issue is crucial because writing scientific papers, especially theses and dissertations, is essentially a systematic process to synthesize literature and find novelty, not just producing thick documents. GenAI comes here as an "intelligent research assistant" to help students overcome challenges such as information flooding and time constraints.
Dr. Khodijah emphasizes the main philosophy: "AI speeds up processes, but humans keep meaning." This underscores that the speed offered by AI must always be balanced with the crucial role of humans in verifying and maintaining the sincerity of seeking scientific truth.

Regarding writing ethics and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), the main guideline of the AI Usage Policy 2025 is that users remain the owners of AI-assisted works, but they are obliged to clearly and transparently list the role of AI in their scientific works.
Operationally, the use of AI is allowed to assist in the initial stages to analysis, including problem exploration, theoretical studies, and formulation of methodological instruments. However, this policy strongly emphasizes the importance of careful validation, manual verification, and re-citation by students at the finalization stage, especially to avoid reference bias and ensure academic integrity.
In line with the speakers, the Director of SPs, Prof. Dr. Zulkifli, MA, emphasized: "On every occasion I always convey that you use AI, not the other way around. We can't run away from these technological advancements, but use them with the right ethics." This message is a firm conclusion for the entire academic community of SPs UIN Jakarta to adapt responsibly. (JA)
