Auditorium Prof. Dr Suwito, MA SPs UIN Jakarta, BERITA SEKOLAH: The Graduate School (SPs) of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta has held its 1596th doctoral promotion exam at the Prof. Dr. Suwito Auditorium, MA, on Monday, 25 November 2024 with promovendus Subayil.

Subayil is a student of the Doctor of Islamic Studies programme with a concentration in Islamic Education and wrote a dissertation entitled ‘Islamic Homeschooling in Indonesia: A Case Study at PKBM Bani Hasim in Mataram City’.

Subayil said that Islamic Homeschooling is an educational alternative that incorporates Islamic values in the curriculum, so that children get academic lessons as well as religious understanding. This approach answers the needs of Muslim families for education that is in line with Islamic values and offers flexibility according to the child's spiritual and academic needs.

In his dissertation, Subayil analysed the practice of Islamic Homeschooling as an alternative education at PKBM Bani Hasim in Mataram City, the integration of Islam in Science lessons at Islamic Homeschooling PKBM Bani Hasim, and explored the supporting and inhibiting factors of Islamic homeschooling.

Learning at PKBM Bani Hasim integrates Islamic values and science through the Qur'an Based Learning approach. This approach connects normative religious principles with empirical learning to develop students' cognitive, affective and psychomotor intelligence.

According to Subayil, the concept of Islamic homeschooling at PKBM Bani Hasim integrates religious and science education, with an interactive and technological approach. With the philosophy of ‘Sowing Hope Illuminating the Future’ this institution is committed to providing quality and relevant education to empower the community through various educational programmes.

This Islamic Homeschooling practice has received a positive response from the community as a more flexible, personalised, and quality education compared to formal schools. Among the supporting factors of this homeschooling practice are the competence of teachers and parents, the psychological readiness of children, and the availability of infrastructure. On the contrary, the lack of competence of teachers and parents, children's psychological unpreparedness, inadequate facilities, and non-optimal extracurricular programmes are the inhibiting factors for the Islamic homeschooling practice.

Subayil successfully defended his dissertation under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Dede Rosyada, MA, Prof. Dr. Armai Arief, M.Ag and Prof. Dr. Maila Dinia Husni Rahiem, MA, Ph.D in front of the examiners consisting of Prof. Dr. Zulkifli, MA.
