Thesis Examination Abdulhaleem Obaid A. Alyusufi: Oil and Gas Conflict in the Middle East from a Political Economy Perspective
Auditorium Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA SPs UIN Jakarta, SPs NEWS: The Graduate School (SPs) of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta held the 2756th Thesis Exam in the Auditorium Room of Prof. Dr. Suwito, MA on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 with candidate Abadulhaleem Obaid A. Alyusufi.
Abadulhaleem Obaid A. Alyusufi is a student of the Master of Islamic Studies program with a concentration in Political Science. Abadulhaleem wrote a dissertation with the title "صراع النفـط والغـاز في منطقـة الشـرق الأوسط من منظور الاقتصاد السياسي" (Oil and Gas Conflict in the Middle East from a Political Economy Perspective).
This thesis discusses the dynamics of conflicts occurring in the Middle East, focusing on the struggle for strategic energy resources, namely oil and gas. Abadulhaleem uses analytical descriptive methods to identify forms of conflict, emerging issues, and their negative impact on the economies of countries in the region. This research combines quantitative and qualitative data, providing a comprehensive picture of the complexity of conflicts in the Middle East.
The results of the study show that competition for control of energy resources is at the root of various conflicts in the Middle East. These conflicts are not only economic, but also political, triggered by the geopolitical interests of major powers and internal tensions in the region. Ideological differences, territorial disputes, and foreign intervention have also muddied the atmosphere, creating prolonged instability.
Abadulhaleem in his thesis concluded that the Middle East has a crucial role in the global political economy, especially as a provider of energy resources. Abundant oil and gas reserves make the region the center of the world's attention, where global economic dynamics and international political policies intersect. Competition for control of these resources not only has an impact on the economy, but also triggers complex political conflicts.
The thesis also highlights how economic competition often transcends trade boundaries, leading to fierce political opposition. Economic dominance, protectionist policies, and ideological differences are the main triggers for tensions between countries or groups in the Middle East region.
Abadulhaleem Obaid A. Alyusufi successfully defended his thesis under the guidance of Prof. Dr. JM Muslimin, MA and was tested in front of a board of examiners consisting of Hamdani, M.Ag, Ph.D, Prof. Dr. JM. Muslimin, MA, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Rahman, MA, Prof. Dr. Iik Arifin Mansurnoor, MA.

Alyusufi was declared to have graduated with the predicate Laude and became the 2756th master's in the field of Islamic Studies at the Graduate School of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.
